Default Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 8

Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 8
Inter were held by Genoa in Week 8 while Antonio Di Natale helped Udinese go top of the table with a brace against Roma. Kaka was the man for Milan while Catania goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri was the hero for the Sicilians as they continue to impress. Here is our selection for team of the week...

Serie A Best XI

Formation: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper

Bizzarri (Catania)

The goalkeeper is a far cry from the shaky and uncertain character from last season. Quickly becoming Catania's number one player. His work against Siena was of Buffon quality as he made save after save. The stops were not just ordinary, they were world-class, especially the miracle he pulled off from Massimo Maccarone's attempted lob. Sheer magical and, one of the saves of the season.

Defenders

Maicon (Inter)

Did the ugly jobs but also the beautiful ones. He was superb on the right flank. He was up and down the line like an underground train as he tried to drag his side to three points. Inter didn't play particularly well on the day but Maicon was brilliant as he stood out from the crowd.

Fabiano Santacroce (Napoli)

Influential in the Partenopei's 1-0 win over Lazio. He had Goran Pandev and Mauro Zarate under wraps for most of the game and he made himself useful down the wings. It's little wonder as to why he is becoming one of Italy's hottest properties. The new Cannavaro? Yes, based on this performance.

Maurizio Domizzi (Udinese)

A great display of Solidarity from the former Napoli stopper. He worked his socks off and tore up the Stadio Friuli turf with some brilliant challenges. A great all round game and he never stopped running for one second.

Midfielders

Kaka (Milan)

The hero once again for Milan. Scored the winner for his side in a rather drab game. Always on hand to do the business and lead by example with a typical Kaka performance. Passed, moved, tackled, shot, scored and did everything for the Rossoneri, apart from save Atalanta's efforts on goal. Forza Kaka.

Giandomenico Mesto (Genoa)

The unsung hero for Genoa against Inter but also this season. He was a nightmare for the Nerazzurri and he had them rattled all game with his constant brilliance in midfield. A real hungry performance by Mesto, just a shame he couldn't cap it off with a goal.

Gokhan Inler (Udinese)

He was the thorn in the Giallorossi's side all game. His work rate was second to none and he kept things ticking over in the middle. Like a master builder he laid the foundations for Udinese to build a solid match. He won possession on countless occasions and kept the ball rolling. Superb.

Momo Sissoko (Juventus)

The former Liverpool man ran the show in midfield. A fighting performance and he could have scored at least two goals. His work rate was sublime ensuring he was first to everything. A real battling display from the Mali international.

Strikers

Amauri (Juventus)

The Brazilian striker was outstanding during the derby. He scored a wonder goal to give his maximum points. Amauri is quickly establishing himself and David Trezeguet is hardly being missed at Vinovo. A top-class performance from the prolific hit-man.

Antonio Di Natale (Udinese)

A world class display from Toto. Grabbed a brace against Roma to pile more misery on the strugglers. His play was top-notch and he hardly made any mistakes. A tour de force show as he keeps his Bianconeri side flying sky high at the helm of Serie A. Well done Di Natale.

Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria)

Cassano didn't score but he makes Team of the Week for his outstanding second half display. He was not spectacular in the first half but he exploded into life in the second as he set up the winner for Claudio Bellucci. Sampdoria wouldn't be the same team without him and they would not have won on Sunday either.
