Reds midfielder Sam Hewson has joined League One side Hereford United on loan, hot on the heels of fellow reserve regular David Gray joining Plymouth Argyle on New Years Day.
Hewson joins up with Graham Turner’s squad for an as-yet-undisclosed length of time, his first spell away from the Reds and a great opportunity to get a first taste of senior football. The 20 year-old has long been highly-rated at Old Trafford after his fine displays for the academy and reserves, having captained the U18s in the 2007 Youth Cup final (a bittersweet affair that saw him net the winner from the penalty spot in front of the Kop in the away leg but miss a penalty in the decisive shoot-out) and earned a nomination for last season’s Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award in his first full season with the second string.
The signs had been there in recent months that continued reserve team action was doing little to help progress the Bolton-born youngster as a footballer, so this stint at Edgar Street could be exactly what the doctor ordered. At his best Hewson is a hugely promising all-round midfield player with the ability to be effective in all areas of the pitch, combining a naturally combative and determined approach with creative instinct and a real eye for goal, a knack of arriving in the penalty at just the right time one of his stand-out qualities. The Whites currently find themselves second from bottom in League One, so hopefully Hewson can make a big contribution to their survival bid, starting this weekend at high-flying Scunthorpe.
Gray meanwhile has joined up with fellow Reds defender Craig Cathcart at Home Park, the versatile Scot going straight into Paul Sturrock’s Plymouth side for their FA Cup trip to Arsenal at the weekend. The 20 year-old had a mixed debut, being credited with putting through his own net for Arsenal’s second (although he denies making the decisive touch) but instantly making amends with a cross for Karl Duguid to pull one back. Robin van Persie ultimately settled the tie in the Gunners’ favour but Gray impressed both the watching media and his new manager, Sturrock being moved to say “The boy Gray had a baptism of fire for us, and I thought his debut for us was excellent. He’s very athletic, he’s quick and he’s tenacious. He fitted in as if he had been playing for us for years. And, to be fair, in the first half he got to the by-line three or four times and got us a few corners so, offensively as well as defensively, I thought he was excellent”. Cathcart also drew praise from several watching journalists, and such strong performances from the United duo on such a big stage will please Sir Alex Ferguson and everyone at Old Trafford no end.
One other piece of loan news - Ron-Robert Zieler’s loan spell at Northampton Town, where he has spent the last month offering goalkeeping cover, has been extended until the end of the month.
CARLOS TEVEZ was on collision course with Alex Ferguson last night after insisting: I’d love to play for Real Madrid.
The striker dropped his bombshell by revealing a desire to join the club that Manchester United boss Fergie despises the most.
Real spent the summer trying to lure Cristiano Ronaldo away from Old Trafford — making them Fergie’s No 1 enemy.
Tevez admitted in a Spanish magazine: “Who wouldn’t want to play for Real Madrid?
“Like Manchester, they are one of the best clubs in the world — and it would be a pleasure to play for them.”
Tevez phoned SunSport yesterday claiming he fears being forced out of United as he has yet to be offered a permanent deal.
He added: “If they don’t sort out my future, there are other clubs ready to negotiate with my representative.
“I’m told United will offer me a deal but I don’t know.
“I love it at United and the fans are special to me but I also understand football.
“If another club offered me the security of a five-year deal then I’d have to consider it.”
Tevez has been at United for 18 months on a loan deal. Old Trafford bosses have always said he would get a permanent contract and his £32million purchase would be finalised.
And he furiously denies he has made ridiculous wage demands.
Tevez added: “I have not been making all sorts of demands. How could I? We have never had any talks.”
New Real boss Juande Ramos is keen on Tevez and the player says he would love to face Barcelona ace and pal Lionel Messi.
klo trlalu rumit lepas aj gpp deh (meski gak rela)...ganti dgn Benzema aj, asal harganya gak kemahalankenyataannya cinta matinya Tevez utk Boca...so kayaknya dia bener2 hanya dagangan aj, klo memang ada yg berani mahal pasti dia mau (klo baca ruwetnya sistem transfernya Tevez)
Deal Me In, Fergie
Carlos Tevez has hit out at claims that he has snubbed a new deal at Manchester United. The Argentina striker insists he wants to stay. Tevez, 24, who was given a week off by boss Alex Ferguson over the New Year, said: “We have not started talks yet. Sir Alex has told me he wants me to remain a United player and that is certainly my desire too. My contract ends in the summer and we have agreed to sit down at the end of the season and discuss a new contract. I have a great relationship with Sir Alex and I hope that will continue.” Tevez’s economic rights are owned by an investment fund headed by Kia Joorabchian. Joorabchian said: “United have indicated they would like to sign Carlos for the long term and he has always said he intends to stay.”

The tabloids all carry reaction from Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet to United's FA Cup third round stroll at St Mary's. The Dutchman claims that referee Mike Riley favoured the Reds, saying: “The referee is always a help for the top teams. Too many decisions went against us, you need neutral people."
Contentious calls aside, the tabloids all concede that United's progress was richly deserved, with Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov singled out for particular praise. "It was Berbatov, ambling about with a studied nonchalance, who epitomised United’s languid dominance," writes the Daily Express' Mick Dennis.
Having eased past the Saints, Tottenham await the Reds in round four. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp won the competition with Portsmouth last season, controversially edging out United, and The Mirror says Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping for a change of fortune this time. "Hopefully Harry won't have the same luck," he says. "If he does, we've no chance."
