“Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” holds onto Oricon Top 10 ranking for 12 consecutive weeks

Child actors Ashida Mana (7) and Suzuki Fuku (7) released a collaboration song called “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” on May 25th under the name “Kaoru to Tomoki, Tama ni Mook”, and amazingly, it’s held strong onto its Top 10 ranking on the Oricon charts!

The song has sold 23,000 copies this week and placed 5th on the Oricon Single Ranking Chart for the week of August 22nd. The song went up two spots from last week’s 7th place, and since June 6th, also managed to stay in the TOP 10 Oricon rankings for 12 consecutive weeks. At this time, “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” has sold a total 376,000 copies.

A previous single that managed to stay in the TOP 10 ranking by artists under the age of 10 was Fujioka Fujimaki’s and Ohashi Nozomi’s 2007 hit, “Gake no Ue no Ponyo”. Released when they were 9-years-old, the single stayed on the Oricon Rankings for 11 weeks. Consequently, “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” managed to break that record with its current 12 weeks run.

In fact, the choreography for both “Gake no Ue no Ponyo” and “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” were done by singer-songwriter Hamada “Peco” Miwako. It may be that the fun lyrics and the easy choreography of both “Ponyo” and “MaruMori” is what made those two songs such a big hit over time.
